Our Property

A Quiet Retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Our rooms are spread out amongst 4 buildings located on our 28-acre property. While that might sound like they could be far apart, being on the side of a mountain doesn't give you much flat space. All the buildings are within close proximity to our Main Lodge making it easy for you to come up to enjoy the main spaces.

Our Story

A Family Affair

Photo of four family members sitting around an outdoor picnic table.

When we say family-run, we truly mean it. Brenda and Kevin, along with Brenda’s father and stepmom, Gerry and Donna—work side by side to create something that feels personal from the moment you arrive.

In May 2022, we took a leap of faith and traded our previous careers for a new life in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Brenda spent over 30 years as a Sign Language Interpreter, Kevin retired after a career as a firefighter in Minnesota, and Gerry and Donna left behind two successful restaurants to bring their passion for hospitality and home-cooked meals to the mountains of Virginia.

What brought us here was simple: the chance to create a place where people feel genuinely cared for. You’ll notice it in the little things—Conversations that linger a little longer, and a kind of hospitality we like to call “Minnesota Nice.”

Sugar Tree Inn isn’t just where we work—it’s where we live and are part of the community. And when you stay with us, you’re not just checking in—you’re being welcomed in.
